At Akalki we are developing a permanently sustainable model. We have decided to live, think and act responsibly with ourselves and with the environment that welcomes us.
We exercise a commitment in every work we carry out.
We develop a consistent, environmentally friendly architecture from which we borrow the necessary elements for the construction of our cabins, palapas, gardens and common areas.
We minimize energy consumption to help reduce our carbon footprint. We understand that the fact that there are no electrical contacts in the rooms may represent some inconvenience to guests, but we are sure that it is a minor inconvenience, compared to the positive change that we have all begun to generate.
By cogenerating electrical energy through solar panels, we are helping to power the grid at the time we produce it. We are taking advantage of new opportunities, helping our country and meeting our own energy needs.
We are environmentally conscious. Every day we learn and know more about it, for this reason we have taken the pleasure of sharing it with all of us who work at Akalki and with the people of our community.
Environmental awareness is the beginning of the great changes that are coming.
We have learned to reduce the levels of garbage we generate in Akalki. We reduce packaging when purchasing, we reuse objects before discarding them and usable solid waste; such as glass, cardboard or metals, we separate them and store them in the collection center, and then send them to specialized warehouses for recycling. The fresh organic waste goes to our composts, which feed the garden and the nursery. From there, we harvest the fruits and vegetables that will later be in the kitchen and on our plates.
We take care of water because it is the most precious resource we have. At Akalki we use biodigesters to treat black water and wetland systems to treat gray water. We reuse the filtered gray water to irrigate the orchard, nursery and gardens. We are all invited to become aware of what it represents, to have respect and love for it and to care for it for our enjoyment.
